It was Jacaranda time..... here's a lovely one up
at Hartbeespoort Dam
So
impressed was I - I took another shot...
I can remember Ken Johnston taking me out
for a look around when I first arrived in SA. We came up to Hartbeespoort
Dam - which is just to the West of Pretoria, and as we were waiting in a queue
of cars to go round a rocky outcrop and over the dam itself.... there was a
sign....."Robot ahead"!! Well! It got my attention...... only to be disappointed
- because it only turned out to be a set of traffic lights!! On that subject....
we didn't go to the cinema or the movies in South Africa - we went to the
Bioscope!!
Another weekend Fred, Sue, Laura and I - all in
Fred's punchy Peuge went off to the Northern Transvaal, up around Nelspruit..
Here we
are at Mac Mac Pools - that's nobody we know - down there!!
But here
we all are - spreading out like an army on maneuvers (l to r) - Sue, Laura, Fred
(guarding!!)
Great
swimming holes these were, don't think we dipped this time - but I did on
subsequent visits - no Bilharzias (nasty - look it up). Laura is at right, just
a little to the left of her (head and shoulders only) is Sue, and in amongst the
tree further left again - is Fred.
Now this
is Mac Mac Falls - I always enjoyed coming to these... because.... it was just
so wild and "uncivilised". There was a car park (of sorts) and signs pointing to
"the falls". You followed a dirt track through the trees, started to hear the
"roar" of the falls and SUDDENLY you came out on the slab where those two people
are sitting, and if you're unaware - could easily go sailing over the edge - no
warnings, no fences - nothing - just the canyon and a long drop!! Excellent!!
Looking
the other way - Laura trying to get a decent shot without "people" in the way -
one slip... and she's gone!!
And then
we were off into the Kruger Park - brilliant place!! Went there lots of times -
although if I remember - this trip was just an in-and-out - didn't stay
overnight.
Bambi!!
Warthog.
what
spooked them??
That's
better....
No - not
dogs....
Baboons!!
This is titled "get your willie off my windscreen"
Whilst
this is "It's your road, dangle whatever you like on it!"
Kudu.

MUM,
Mum... he's taking a picture of me!!

Now this
has a story.... Just to the left of centre, is a Giraffe, walking away. Fred, at
this point in time wasn't into cameras and carried only a little "aim and shoot"
thing in his shirt pocket. I of course had been ridiculing such a crap item -
having the Punchy Pentax Spotmatic - WITH 70 to 150 Zoom lense - by this time.
It was getting close to "get out of the park" time and in the back of the punchy
Peuge, I had put all my gear away, when we came around a bend - and there was
this Giraffe (we hadn't seen one all day) just about to start crossing the
road.... Fred, slows the car (I am diving into my gear - screwing - unpacking
etc...), right-hand into top left breast pocket, out with the non-camera and
shoots off a great picture, replaces camera in top pocket and asks if I'm ready
to proceed.... which I was - about 2 minutes later - when all we could see was a
fast disappearing arse!!
Sunset -
just as we're leaving the Park.
Next day
- we're on our way back to Johannesburg and see some "burning-off"

Must have had 2 cameras going....
For no
real reason I took this shot out the back of Fred's flat at 401 Hillandale in
Berea.
And
someone took this piccie of me - I wonder why?
