A weekend away - in nearby Swaziland - out of Joburg through Bethal and Ermelo, on Saturday 5th June - about 200 miles to the border near Amsterdam on Route 65.

This is just a (wind-on shot) of a roadside stall - selling beads and crafts.

Tree/shrub flowering (I think) was taken near the Swazi Market in Mbabane (capital of Swaziland)..

We checked into the Holiday Inn and bumped into Ross/Russ (I knew him from BEA at Heathrow from years before, and he joined 1900 Programming in South Africa) and his wife Georgina - neither of us knew that the others would be there this weekend - so it was good to see them. Was their surname Hamilton?? Ross Hamilton, Georgina Hamilton (her stage name - as a model)...

Next day we were up and off - driving through Forbes Reef and Pigg's Peak towards the border at Matsamo - that's only about 60 miles but it was a very rough road and it took us most of the day. We picked up a hitch-hiker along the way - he said he was a policeman in Mbabane and was going "home" for a couple of days - "home" being about 30 miles distant - and he was expecting to walk the whole way!!

We also stopped to take lots of piccies - shame - no idea where they were exactly - but there again I could tell you anything - for example two of the places along the route Ngonin and Hhohho are unusual enough for me to have made them up - but they are real places!!

These guys were selling wooden sculptures I like the Public School Blazer at left...

Then we met these two boys....

And their family... I think we took their address - and sent them clothes...

And then we ran into this group of young boys. They had leaves and branches hanging from their waists and were dancing and generally putting on a show - across the road - had to stop and pay them some money!!

Still pushing on - towards Pigg's Peak....

See the local huts/kraals/rondavels???

Miles from anywhere - nobody to be seen - great!!

Joe Cool...

Not exactly "African Wild-life"!!

(This is shot 10 - see Unknown Page)

This next series of piccies could be Mbuluzi Falls........ but I think, more likely ... the Mahulungwane Falls

(This is shot 15)

Apparently what happened is that the surrounding rock is quite soft - and (harder) stones/boulders washed down-river - end up on this soft rock - then over years the hard rocks get pummeled around and they carve out holes before they get flushed out and continue their journey.

Onward...........

Shadows lengthening.......

We were very impressed by this cloud & sun effect..... as you can see...

This was the road "down" - through the Josefsdal Gate and back into South Africa towards Barberton then Jo'burg and home....

Can you see the rondavels?? What a place to live!! On top of the world!!

Brother & sister?? We gave them some small cash.... BUT, But - I have to say - the girl's hat is more Lesotho than Swazi - so this piccie may be misplaced

Then we saw these kids bathing/playing in the river.

Some came up to chat...
