Star Cruises operate out of Hong Kong and Singapore - big cruise liners that (in the case of Hong Kong) take a couple of days to go south to Hainan (China) island, or to Vietnam (bit longer), or just go sailing into the blue - gambling.

Together with Donna and KY we boarded on a Friday evening and were soon slipping out of Hong Kong harbour - brilliant!!

Once out of the sight of land (very smooth) we ate and drank and slept, were up on deck after breakfast...

sunning... (November 13th, 2005 - just thrown those shorts away - shame!!). The water on the deck comes from a small swimming pool just to the left out of picture. High life - ordering drinks from passing waiters - lavish stuff!

Got to Haikou (the capital and main port of Hainan) around lunch time on the Saturday and then with Donna and KY being our guides (Cantonese speakers) we hired a taxi (dirty) and toured the city... not much to see

This lake and entertainment area... and we did have a nice late lunch. Getting back to the port I was amazed to see a car driving quite happily along the incorrect side of the road - and it wasn't a small road either - dual-carriageway and at least 2 lanes in each direction - crazy!!

The ship then set off north for the return to Hong Kong - and..

waiting to disembark

Making sure you know which ship we were on...
