20051231-Manila & HK

Home

Christmas was to be spent in Manila so Janet and I bombed off there on 19th December, moved into Rod's flat (thanks Rod) and generally sped around to lunches and dinners (well done Joe and Nena) and viewed apartments and of course spent a day viewing our plot in Canyon Woods.

This is inside Canyon Woods - A zoomed shot - from our plot, looking back at the Clubhouse.

Whoops!! What has happened to our plot??

That's it, to the left of the pile of rocks. The BIG problem is to the right of the rocks..... The rocks stand on what is/was a turning circle - like at the end of a cul-de-sac but since we were there last year......

Half of the circle has subsided down the ravine

And the rest of the road looks ready to follow it!! Where will our plot end up????

28th December we (Marga too)  flew to Hong Kong - and moved in with the boys in their flat in Western - a tight fit, but it worked well. The first day there I went round to see Ralphie and Rowena and then went for a walk up High West - still as brilliant as it ever was - except at the top - the polluted air was easily seen - horrible!! I tried a different route down - hoping to end up down in Western district - all went well until I was routed back towards the Pok Fu Lam reservoir, and from there it was a long and boring walk to Western - however - a great walk!!

Next day - Craigie said we had to walk Lantau - not over any of the peaks - but basically around the shoreline....

Mandy came too - this was an early stop to ensure photo equipment was working well

All's well - let's get on....

One of the brilliant things about Hong Kong - is that you can get away from the crowds very easily, and on Lantau there are hikes and treks and walks of all types - we saw quite a few couples lugging their tenting/camping gear - having spent a day or two camping in the wilds...

We liked this bit of the route - big drops on the left into the sea.

One of many bays - nobody swimming or sun-bathing - deserted - great!! Of course it was winter so temperatures were only about 10 to 15 degrees C, but in the sun - and exercising we were warm/hot enough!

Artistic hey??

Then there was this long gradual descent into the bay in the distance where....

Elephant Grass - didn't see any hefalumps though!

We did the red bit... 5 hours on December 31st!!

End of 2005 is coming close...

We are heading for the far side of this bay...

Where there's lots of rubbish brought in by the tides - but we can ignore all that - what a great walk - well done Craigie!! - and of course Mandy!! Happy New Year!!
