We decided to go off to the Maldive Islands, for no other reason than they were a great (apparently) destination, and they weren't too far away - about 4 hours once we'd got to Bangkok. First impressions flying in.... lots of lovely blue water and pearl-necklace-like islands just sprinkled throughout - wonderful. Arriving at Mal? airport was unusual too. Instead of the host of signs to "Taxis", "Railway", "MRT/MTR", "Bus Station", "Car Rental" that you'd expect at an international airport - there was none of that, and instead signs to "Water-Taxis", "Hotel Courtesy boats", "Air-Taxi" etc... The airport was built on one island, Mal? (the capital) was on a close-by island - and all other resorts/hotels were to be found on other islands. We soon found a courtesy-boat to the Club-Med island (Farukolhufushi), and we were off.. about 20 minutes... A warm welcome on the dock, with complimentary drinks whilst checking-in and off to our room. The next few days were all that you'd expect.. relaxing, warm, swimming, nice food/drinks etc.. etc... fabulous - highly recommended!! And now for the photies... alas they're mostly of us.... because there's not much else to photograph. The sky is enormous - so is the sea (which seems to be eternally calm/flat (except for the tsunami a year or two ago)) - and the highest elevation anywhere in the Maldive Islands is 3 metres (9 feet) - how did they survive the tsunami?? So brilliant ideas like "lets climb up that mountain and take piccies from there" - don't really compute! The first day I think we just lazed around......
So we went off to look around Mal?
Yes.... that's the bar!! What a fine ending!! |
